Great Way to looking for something to do the weekend of July 21, tune into
UFC 149 on Saturday. Coming to you live from the Scotiabank Sattledome
in Calgary, Alberta. The UFC’s first ever card in Alberta. This will
also mark one of the three times the UFC will be in Canada this year.
Lets take a closer look into this card!
In the main event of the night, top contender, Urijah Faber will take
on 28-1 Renan Barao for the Interim Bantamweight Championship to find
out who will face Dominick Cruz.
Faber and Cruz were set to fight each
other after the Ultimate Fighter season was over but Dominick sustained
an injury while on the show which would prevent him from being able to
fight when the show was over. Barao, coming off a win over Scott
Jorgensen, put himself into top contender status which then lead to this
fight being set up. Renan has won all of his career MMA fights except
one – his very first fight. He has been undefeated since 2005 with a win
streak of 28. The question on many peoples minds is that how good was
the competition he was facing? His most recent wins in the UFC have been
over some decent fighters but nobody special. I guess we will have to
wait and see!
In the co-main event, newly signed middleweight stand out, Hector
Lombard will make his UFC debut against Tim Boetsch. Lombard is on a 24
fight win streak with an overall record of 31 wins and 2 loses.
Many believe that he was the best middleweight outside of the UFC and
claim that he is the man to beat Anderson Silva. Originally, Lombard’s
UFC debut was going to be Brian Stann but an injury backed him out of
the fight. Tim Boetsch on the other hand is riding a three fight win
streak and looks to extend that with a win over Lombard. He is coming
off a miraculous win over Yushin Okami at UFC 144 in Japan. After being
dominated for 2 rounds by Okami, Boetsch susprised everyone when he
tagged Yushin, dropped him and finished him with punches. A lot of
people are going to be interested in seeing what Lombard can do in the
UFC so be sure not to miss this one.
Cheick Kongo will take on Shawn Jordan in a Heavyweight tilt that is
bound to be an exciting fight. Kongo lost his last fight to Mark Hunt
when the two met in Japan at UFC 144 and will look to rebound with a win
and get back on track. Shawn Jordan, who is a recent addition to the
Heavyweight addition made his UFC debut at UFC on FX: Alves vs Kampmann
against Oli Thompson scoring a second round TKO. He will look to lunge
himself up in the rankings and a win over Cheick Kongo will do just
that.
These and many more exciting fights will take place on July 21 so be sure to mark your calenders and tune in!
